Start by establishing goals for the event. It is imperative to identify key objectives before the Office of Major Events can assist in planning your event, as the guidance given will strategically align to help achieve your goals. Once you have determined your event objectives, please submit a request for assistance by the Office of Major Events, so an initial consultation can be scheduled.
The Office of Major Events can assist in planning a wide range of events, promoting the Syracuse University vision and mission on campus, throughout the community and worldwide. Their expertise ranges from prestigious lectures, professional conferences, fundraising gala's, award ceremonies, academic ceremonies and much more. For a more in-depth look at the Major Event's portfolio, please see About Us.

The Office of Major Events plans Syracuse University’s major public and private events with various departments across campus, and often involve the participation of the Chancellor and President, and the Vice Chancellor and Provost. Two annual events of this nature are the Chancellor’s Convocation for New Students and Commencement Weekend events.

Other events planned by this office include: the University Lecture series, Advancement and External Affairs initiatives, installations of academic deans, groundbreakings and dedications of new buildings and acquisitions, recognitions of visiting dignitaries, honors of outstanding faculty and students, and celebrations involving ceremony and protocol.

The Office of Major Events team’s involvement in an event varies and depends on key components like the event goals, target audience, complexity and level of engagement which is determined in a collaborative meeting with the event requestor or program lead. Our team is experienced in collaborating with campus partners to determine the necessary elements of an event; these could include full-service event management, information on proper university protocols and procedures, stage plots, artist and vendor contracts, seating layouts, volunteer organization and other key elements.

For example, we can tailor stage plots and seating layouts for events whenever necessary and on a case-by-case basis. These custom documents are not adaptable to all event inquiries.
Through collaboration with the event requestor, the Office of Major Events will assist, guide and support in organizing logistical aspects of an event. The Office of Major Events will advise the event partners based on event planning best practices; however, it is up to the requestor or program manager to make the decisions on event needs.
Yes. The Office of Major Events serves as consultants for event planning by schools, colleges and departments. Please complete an event request form to notify the team of your event inquiries.
While the Office of Major Events does not negotiate or sign contracts, the Major Events team is equipped with ample industry knowledge to assist campus partners when booking venues, talent or vendors. The Office of Major Events can book on-campus vendors (i.e., Campus Catering, LEMP, DPS) on the event requestor's behalf, but will require a chartstring in advance.

I would like to acknowledge with respect the Onondaga Nation, firekeepers of the Haudenosaunee, the indigenous peoples on whose ancestral lands Syracuse University now stands.
